No More Fries

Welcome to my first food related article as well as weight-loss tip. To be fair, this is a pretty good life tip in general. Please stop eating french fries.

Now let me preface. I’m not an expert, I’m not a dietitian  or any type of doctor. I have though started to turn my weight around. I started my weight-loss journey in November of 2016 and I’ve written about it a few times on my personal blog. At this exact moment, I’m sitting pretty solid at 40 pounds down after about a year and a half, maintaining for almost the last year. So while I’m not an expert, I can tell you that this little tip has definitely helped me.

Here’s a couple of calorie comparisons I pulled up just to give you an idea. The first two here are for Texas Roadhouse and Applebees, two of the largest chain restaurants in the US. They both offer many other sides other than fries and I would urge you to consider some of them. Not only are option like veggies and broccoli going to have less calories almost every time, they are also going to have more vitamins and stuff that your body appreciates. You don’t need to 100% cut out fries, but choosing these options every once in a while will be sure to help you out.

Texas Roadhouse Fries – 400 Calories
Texas Roadhouse Veggies – 190 Calories
Texas Roadhouse Mashed Potatoes – 220 Calories
Texas Roadhouse Cup of Chili – 280 Calories

Applebee’s Fries – 430 Calories
Applebee’s Steamed Broccoli – 30 Calories
Applebee’s Mashed Potatoes – 130 Calories

The last comparison I wanted to look at was McDonald’s, but this can apply to almost any other fast food establishment. What do you do when you go to fast food? The only option is french fries. Here is my tip. First, if you don’t have to go to a fast food restaurant, don’t, they aren’t good for you period. If you’re trying to lose weight, stay away in general. If you absolutely have to eat at one, my go to is to just skip the fries. Just don’t order them. For the same amount of calories as a medium french fry, you can order a whole second sandwich. Do that! Get another McChicken or even a McDouble. That will have more protein, as well as more veggies if you go that route, and more variety than your french fries. The protein will help to keep you feeling fuller and it won’t be deep fried. Better all around.

McDonald’s Medium Fry – 340 calories
McDouble Burger – 380 Calories
McChicken Sandwich – 350 Calories

I know this isn’t a typical tip, but it can really make a difference when you’re on a diet and still trying to enjoy life and go out with friends and family.
